Who needs a permit?
Contractors who install piping systems regulated by Minnesota's high pressure piping statutes and rules must be licensed to do this work and apply for permits prior to the start of construction. High pressure piping systems that require licensing and permits include:
steam-piping system designed to operate at more than 15psi,
other heating media piping systems that operate at more than 30 psi and 250 degrees,
ammonia refrigeration systems, and
bio-process piping systems.
Minneapolis and St. Paul have municipal agreements with us to issue permits and perform inspections in each city.
